Meet & Greet Event Honoring Phurba Tenjing Sherpa The Rotary Club of New York Queens recently held a special Meet & Greet at Woodside Cafe to honor world-class mountaineer Phurba Tenjing Sherpa and his wife, Rosita Buddhacharya, a PhD candidate at Harvard & Smithsonian. The couple traveled to New York to present our club with our official flag and a photo of the moment Phurba hoisted it on the summit of Mount Everest. Phurba is a true legend with 17 Everest summits and three Guinness World Records. His career is full of inspiring "firsts," including leading the youngest climbers (starting at age 17), the oldest climber (age 77), the first double-amputee, and the first team of female journalists to the top of the world. To know more about him please visit https://www.dreamersdestination.com/ To thank him for his incredible contribution, President Karma Lama proudly presented him an Honorary Member of our club as token of appreciation. During the event, we also donated $675 to Hector Ramirez for the "Gift of Smile" project. Assistant District Governor Michael Ashkenazy welcomed everyone with traditional Khatak scarves and shared updates on our "Hope in the Himalayan Heartbeats" campaign. We want to thank our visiting friends Faith J. Labis, Fran Gordon, and William, as well as our hard-working club leaders—Kham Bhatta, Arbin Poudel, Pasang Sherpa, Pemba Gyalzen Sherpa, Dawa Karma Sherpa, and Manju Bista—for making this historic day possible. #RotaryInternational #MountEverest #ServiceAboveSelf
