📣 Today Rotary Club of New York Queens successfully held its first meeting of the year on January 10, 2024. We were delighted to welcome Fran Gordon from Gold Coast Lake Success Rotary, who has visited Nepal over 15 times and has made a significant impact in rural areas through sustainable economic development awareness programs. During the meeting, we discussed various important agendas, including: 1️⃣ Update on the club members' status 2️⃣ Activities related to President Elect Arbin Poudel's recent successful visit to Nepal 3️⃣ Highlighting the contribution of Immediate Past President Guru D. Parajuli, who generously donated more than $1000 to buy a BMC machine and an additional $1150 to the Rotary Club of New York Queens 4️⃣ We also had the honor of welcoming community leader Asha Pandey. President-Elect Arbin Poudel shared some of the major activities carried out on behalf of the club during his stay in Nepal. We are proud to announce that we donated the following amounts for humanitarian works: 1️⃣ Manavsewa ashram: Rs 18,500 (feeding of 67 elderly homeless women) 2️⃣ Orphanage childcare: Rs 10,000 3️⃣ Remote school: Rs 21,000 4️⃣ Poor person's kidney treatment: Rs 10,000 5️⃣ Charity for Surya Gurung: Rs 13,000 6️⃣ Rotary Club Maharajgunj: Rs 1,000 7️⃣ Clothes (jacket + saris + blouse) purchased for 67 elderly homeless women: Rs 38,200 + 7,000 = Rs 45,200 The total amount donated for these causes is Rs 118,700. We would like to express our gratitude to the following club members for their generous donations: 1️⃣ Khem Bhatta – Past President: $100 2️⃣ Nabraj KC – Past President: $100 3️⃣ Guru D. Additionally, as part of our "Luggage for Life" campaign, we collected new and almost new clothes in New York, was shipped to Kathmandu. The costs associated with this campaign are as follows: 1️⃣ Qatar Airways luggage charge: Rs 26,000 – sponsored by Arbin Poudel 2️⃣ FedEx Cargo Shipping (62 lbs): Rs 44,451 – sponsored by Karma Lama Furthermore, Arbin Pudel, President Elect handed over a cash donation of Rs 131,000 to Krishna Gurung, President of the Host Country Rotary Club Maharajgunj, under our regular student scholarship program in Sindupalchowk District of Nepal. Lastly, based on the suggestions of all members, we have agreed to authorized President Elect Arbin Poudel and Manju Bista, Sergeant at Arms, to open a separate bank account jointly in the name of the Scholarship program. Arbin Poudel has also been authorized to be added to the current account of the Rotary Club of New York Queens. Finally Hans Raj Joshi, President of the club thanked everyone for their valuable suggestions, presence, time, dedication and contributions.
