The Rotary Flag Reaches the Summit of Mount Everest
On May 18, 2025, at 12:15 PM, the Rotary flag—an emblem of service, unity, and dedication—achieved a monumental milestone by reaching the pinnacle of the world: Mount Everest. While we proudly marched in Manhattan, celebrating Nepal Day Parade 2025 at 66 feet above sea level, this beacon of hope and transformation soared to the Earth’s highest point—29,032 feet—carried and unveiled by legendary mountaineer Phurba Tenjing Sherpa, a Guinness World Record holder.
Phurba Tenjing Sherpa: A Legacy of Excellence
His extraordinary mountaineering career includes:
– 13 successful ascents of Mount Everest
– Two Everest summits within 10 days (2007)
– Two Everest summits within 3 days (2008 & 2017)
– Two Everest ascents without oxygen supplementation
– Two successful climbs of Mount Manaslu
– A remarkable summit of Mount Ama Dablam in just 10 days, spending 10 hours on its peak (2011)
– The first ascent of Mount Khang Karpo (6,646m) in 2016

A seven-time Everest summitter and mountaineering instructor, Pasang Sherpa is the first UIAGM/IFMGA/IVBV-certified mountain guide with extensive expertise in trekking and mountaineering training, both nationally and internationally.
His leadership has been instrumental in guiding expeditions as a lead guide, first aid responder, rescuer, and logistics manager in high-altitude ventures.
