Rotary Club of New York Queens: First Executive Meeting of 2025–2026
The Rotary Club of New York Queens successfully hosted its first Executive Board meeting under the newly inducted leadership of President Rtn. Karma Lama on July 16, 2025, following his formal induction on June 28, 2025. The meeting brought together club officers, members, and distinguished guests to review past efforts, plan upcoming service initiatives, and set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
Meeting Agenda & Key Highlights:
Welcome & Introductions Officers were introduced during the meet-and-greet session, followed by a reaffirmation of unity with the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Rtn. Karma Lama welcomed members with heartfelt appreciation and emphasized shared responsibility in the spirit of Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self.”
-!Financial Review Immediate Past President Rtn. Arbin Poudel shared the club’s financial report and officially handed over duties to newly appointed Treasurer Rtn. Dawa Sherpa. This included updates on sponsor contributions, donations received, and expenditures from the recent 9th Installation Ceremony and journal publication.
– The club officially opened a new account at Ridgewood Savings Bank, with authorized access transferred accordingly. Meeting minutes were signed to record all proceedings.
-Recognition & Certificates New members Rtn. Sushil Giri and Rtn. Saroj Shrestha received their membership certificates. Leadership awards were presented to Rtn. Dr. Shekhar Giri, Sergeant of Arms, to Rtn. Kkam Bhatta, & to Tsering Choeky Lama (President of Interact Club), Yuba Raj Bhatta (President-Elect), and Melisha Gurung (Member).
Community & International Projects Planned (2025–2026) The club unveiled plans for impactful service activities, including:
-Blood Drive (August–October)
– Neighborhood & Park Cleanups (August–September)
– Summer & Winter Clothing Drive (August–November)
Annual Gala Dinner (December)
“ Seeds of Hope on Himalayan Heartbeats” — A long-term international initiative running from 2025 to 2029.
Open Discussion & Suggestions Members offered feedback and suggestions to strengthen club activities. Assistant District Governor Rtn. Michael Ashkenazy introduced the “Happy Dollar” fundraising culture, which was enthusiastically received. Past Presidents and Board Directors shared their perspectives and congratulated both the outgoing and incoming executive teams.
– Fundraising Initiative A proposal by Rtn. Nabaraj KC to contribute $25 per member to The Rotary Foundation was unanimously approved reflecting our commitment to sustaining global service efforts.
In the closing statement President Rtn. Karma Lama expressed deep appreciation to all attendees, highlighting the importance of teamwork, accountability, and active participation in club projects to ensure collective success. Also thanked Management team of Ridgewood Saving Bank, for providing such a wonderful venue, supporting the journal publication and sponsoring the dinner on today’s meeting .
